'Rest in peace,' defensive end with eight NFL seasons Chris Smith died at age 31.

Chris Smith, a defensive end who played in the National Football League for a total of eight seasons, died recently, according to West Rowan High School in North Carolina.

The New York Post said there was no word about what happened to the person who died.

May this legend of West Rowan County finally rest in peace!" Monday, West Rowan High School's sports account sent out a tweet. 

"Chris was a great player, but he was even better as a person! People will always remember how he made them feel because of what he did.

A reporter named David Whisenant, who has won an Emmy for his job, said, "Very bad news.  

Chris Smith died at the age of 31. He played football in the NFL and for West Virginia University.

Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer wrote in an article about the Carolina Panthers that "Chris Smith had a smile that could light up any room he was in."
